200 Years of History and Hope

“In 1820, God saw that the emerging global city of Toronto needed the gospel, and so in his sovereign purposes, according to God’s heart, the hope of the gospel and the promise of God gave birth to our church, Knox Presbyterian Church.  For 200 years now, Knox Church has been following Jesus, loving the city and serving the world, privileged to partner with God in his redemptive purposes and plans.

Our history recalls so many names of faithful people who made up this church, the different places Knox called home, and historical moments and ministry over these past 200 years.  But at the heart of our history is a central truth – it is about what God has been doing in and through us.  It is about God building his Kingdom here.  It is God’s sovereign grace that is the single most distinctive element that gives coherence and meaning to our history.

Trusting in God’s faithful grace that has sustained us for 200 years, we look forward in faith to a strong future, praying:  “Build your church here, build and bless it to be a faithful and bright gospel witness.  Unleash the story of Jesus, of his matchless grace, of the Kingdom’s justice and compassion, so it will again spark spiritual renewal and revival over the GTA and across the globe.”
